And so we came to Rome
Hello, my name is Kayla and I live near Seattle. I have a hard time expressing the madness that is my brain. I am going to be a psychologist when I grow up. I like writing, memorizing lists, baking, a good adventure, interior decorating, coffee, science, traveling, and creating things. I laugh at things that aren't funny and get excited about weird atypical things. I feel guilty if I don't recycle and it bothers me when people are wasteful. There is nothing I won't do for my true friends. And I am an introvert, in a really big way.

 Willow Tree — Chad VanGaalen

I like to, when I meet someone new, ask them what music they just can’t stop listening to. Jeff, a new friend, and I met last week at his work -the second hand bookstore in town- and it just so happened that he was taking a lunch break at the same time I had finished up buying my textbooks. So I accompanied him on his break to the pizza joint across the street. As he ate, we talked about life, the town we both love especially during the winter and summer when the student population is gone, and finally I asked him about music.

He told me he had just spent the summer learning more about jazz, and basically listening to as much of it as possible. Then he listed Chad VanGaalen, which I didn’t recognize and I jotted down a couple songs Jeff suggested. This was one of them.

Somewhere, I knew this song. A movie? No, I don’t think so. A mixed tape from someone? Who knows. But I knew this song. And honestly, I have been listening to it all week.

There is just something so charming about it. When I walk across campus in the dismal weather, or when I drive the 35 minutes from home to town. Or when I sit down at the end of the night when I want to write down my thoughts. So, thank you Jeff. I hope our friendship is accompanied by more inspiring music. As well as you ribbing me for the foot thing (he’ll get it, if he ever checks out TKoW).
